Georgia Senate passes a bill to legalize water cremations

Death Care industry _ Georgia Senate passes a bill to legalize water cremations

Georgia Senator Bill Heath is proposing a new bill 296 that would update the legal wording around cremation to specifically include Alkaline Hydrolysis as a means of human disposition.

The Senator said the bill was inspired by a constituent who purchased a device for aquamation for her funeral home but was denied a crematory license because she didn’t have a furnace. Heath states that “Essentially all SB 296 does is straighten out a law we didn’t complete in 2012.”

If the bill passes the House, it will take effect on July 1st.
