Famous musician James Blunt has written another tear jerker this year, about the looming mortality of his father. Former Cavalry officer Colonel Charles Blount, is currently battling stage four chronic kidney disease. The experience has been eye opening for the star and he has let his feelings flow in his new single ¨Monsters.¨

Blunt says “Monsters is a song for my father who I idolised as a child, has been my best friend through adult life, and now urgently needs an O positive kidney donor.”

Telling the Yorkshire Post; “My father and I, we love each other and he’s been the most amazing father to me all my life and we know the bond that we have, but if you have a limited amount of time with that person on this Earth, then there’s some other things that I, as a songwriter, feel it would be a good time to say.”

“That’s why the words to Monsters say, ‘I’m not your son, and you’re not my father, we’re just two grown men saying goodbye, we need to forgive and we need to forget, I know your mistakes and you know mine.’

“Those are kind of risky things to say because you hope they’re not misunderstood or taken the wrong way, but they say something deeper than just ‘I love you, you’re my father, I love you as my friend as well.”

It’s a touching and relatable piece of music that death care professionals can expect to hear a lot of in future playlist rotations.

James Blunt Monsters Lyrics

Oh, before they turn off all the lights

I won’t read you your wrongs or your rights

The time has gone

I’ll tell you goodnight, close the door

Tell you I love you once more

The time has gone

So here it is

I’m not your son, you’re not my father

We’re just two grown men saying goodbye

No need to forgive, no need to forget

I know your mistakes and you know mine

And while you’re sleeping, I’ll try to make you proud

So daddy, won’t you just close your eyes?

Don’t be afraid, it’s my turn

To chase the monsters away

Oh, well I’ll read a story to you

Only difference is this one is true

The time has gone

I folded your clothes on the chair

I hope you sleep well, don’t be scared

The time has gone

So here it is

I’m not your son, you’re not my father

We’re just two grown men saying goodbye

No need to forgive, no need to forget

I know your mistakes and you know mine

And while you’re sleeping, I’ll try to make you proud

So daddy, won’t you just close your eyes?

Don’t be afraid, it’s my turn

To chase the monsters away

Sleep a lifetime

Yes, and breathe a last word

You can feel my hand on your own

I will be the last one, so I’ll leave a light on

Let there be no darkness in your heart

But I’m not your son, you’re not my father

We’re just two grown men saying goodbye

No need to forgive, no need to forget

I know your mistakes and you know mine

And while you’re sleeping, I’ll try to make you proud

So daddy, won’t you just close your eyes?

Don’t be afraid, it’s my turn

To chase the monsters away
